A
FUNNY TALE OF TARINI KHURO
Once upon a time a middle-aged man, commonly known as
Tarini Khuro, was living in a hut at a remote village called Daserchak. He was
staying with his wife, son, daughter-in-law and grandson, Nani who was a very
cunning boy. Tarini Khuro, from his young age, was a man of forgetful mind. He
could narrate many present events, but could never recount his gone by incidents
of his life.
On a summer evening he, with Nani, went to enjoy a
football match in the village field. The match was played between a team of
Daserchak and a team of the neighbouring village called Chandipur. At the end,
the team of Daserchak won the game. Every village folk of Daserchak became
jubilant. Tarini Khuro, too, began to rejoice for the victory along with others
forgetting all about Nani. At dusk Tarini Khuro alone took his way to come back
home. As soon as he reached near the vicinity of his house, he suddenly
screamed and started lamenting. The neighbours rushed to him and asked, “What
has happened?” Tarini Khuro confessed that he had lost Nani in the football
field. Immediately his son and the local people, forming a searching party,
went back to the field to detect Nani, but their attempts went in vain. Night
gradually descends. Naturally, being extremely worried, when the inquiring team
left no stone unturned to look for Nani, a villager informed them that the
village headman had arranged a stageplay in his lawn. They had better go there.
Accordingly the party went there. Amidst huge audience it
was difficult to find out Nani. But an abnormal situation favoured party’s
luck. When the opera-play ‘Aami Subhas Balchi’ was on and the whole audience
was viewing that with rapt attention, suddenly, to everyone’s surprise, out of
the assembly, Nani, standing up and licking a mango stone, cried out Aami
Subhas Balchi. Then and there he was caught and brought back home. Seeing Nani,
Tarini Khuro regained normalcy. [±
